I am interested in Islamic history not only because I am Muslim, but because throughout centuries, Islamic rulers were ruling and dominating the world politics. ‘Lost Islamic History: Reclaiming Muslim Civilisation from the Past’ by Firas Alkhateeb is a wonderful work that can surely satisfy the intellectual curiosity of readers who are interested in Islamic history.
Firas Alkhateeb is a famous historian who is specialized in Islamic history, writer, and researcher. The author completed his BA in history at the University of Illinois in 2010. ‘Lost Islamic History: Reclaiming Muslim Civilisation from the Past’ is obviously a book about Islamic history. It starts with the story of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W), his call to Islam, and finally, the foundation of Islam. Later, the author is telling about Islamic conquests lead by righteous rulers Umar bin Khattab, Osman ibn Affan, Ali ibn Abu Talib, and others. The book also mentions the conflict between Ali ibn Abu Talib and Muawiya ibn Abu Sufyan, Umayyad and Abbasid dynasties, Saladdin, the Ottoman Empire (its foundation and destruction), and many other historic subjects and events. The book covers Islamic history from the foundation of Islam until modern times.
I was looking for such a book that would include a brief summary of Islamic history, and this book is one of the best works that I have found in this book. ‘Lost Islamic History: Reclaiming Islamic Civilisation from the Past’ by Firas Alkhateeb is very readable and comprehensive. I truly enjoyed the writing style of the author. I learned a lot of new things from this book.
I highly recommend this informative and historically accurate book to everyone. If you are interested in Islamic history, but you don’t have enough time and desire to read several volumes of different books, then, ‘Lost Islamic History’ by Firas Alkhateeb will be the best choice.
